I grew up not fully understanding God’s grace. During my Pa Paw’s funeral, I deeply contemplated life and what happens afterwards. Coming to the conclusion that life is just a flash compared to eternity, I comitted the rest of my life showing and telling others that God’s love is relevant and transforming.
After fourteen years exciting years in student ministry and a growing disatisfaction, a new venture began. The best way to maximize my best years is by planting a healthy church in Helotes, Texas. This journey has many twists and turns. May I never loose my understanding of God’s grace, the passion to take risks, and the compassion for people because everyone matters.
I love my beautiful wife, Dr. Pepper, LOST, running, biking, swimming, my iphone, journaling, and playing kickball with my kids.

Hi John, this is your “old friend” Dana from Bootcamp. I confess I have not been faithfully reading your blog. I added you to my bloglines and that changes today! I saw where Steve Pike blogged about you. Aint you special. Seriously, that was good stuff. I think that planting a church in a town you’ve never lived or know anybody presents HUGE challenges in addition to all the normal challenges that come with planting. I guess we have an advantage in that we’ve been in Chattanooga all our lives. Of course I don’t forget what Jesus said about prophets in their hometowns. Not that I’m a prophet. You get the point. I hope we can all get together in 2008!

Hi John,
I worked with Val at University Hospital. In fact, he and I graduated in the same nursing class at UTHSCSA. I was at his memorial service, and appreciated your words about Val. I was also moved by Drew’s arrangement of “It is well with my soul.” I play guitar at my church, and am wondering if I could get a copy of that arrangement.
Thanks again for your kind words for Val.

Congratulations! When did you start this church? I will pray that God gives you Wisdom and Insight, and that he wins souls uncountable from this new venture! If you get a chance…..drop me a line. God Bless!

Pastor John:
I just had lunch with Jason Dorsey, and the subject of ironman triathlons
came up and he told me you completed one. I have just started training for
one–hope to do my first at Age 40. I’m 38. We miss you, but Jason tells us things are going great. So glad to hear it. Revolution at Metro has been re-born. Thanks for all the sacrifice in founding our student ministry.
God bless you for all you do. With love. Jay Martin

I have been searching on line for images that are suitable for First Holy Communion. I followed the link for an image with the words ‘Remember me’ to your section of this website and I wonder if you could inform me whether the image is subject to copyright and if so whom I could contact to ask for permission to use it.
thank you in advance
