This Sunday we start our new series where I become transparent with some very real struggles in my life. Four years ago I read a book by a pastor named Craig Groeschel that inspired a new level of authenticity. I grew up thinking that pastors, presidents, business owners, and other leaders had to be perfect and if they revealed struggles they were weak. This Sunday I share reasons why I feel unqualified to be pastor of GFC.
Drew, Jenn, and Justin did a great job creating the video intro to these messages. After watching the video, click here to see behind the scenes of what happened in our “studio” to make it happen.
What do you think? Why is it a good or bad idea to cultivate vulnerability in a church?

WOW! I just recently had a conversation with my wife about how the older generation of ministers/preachers really have a difficult time with self-disclosure. It is very rare to hear older preachers really revealing themselves and being open about struggles or areas of weakness. I have observed that younger ministers are more apt to do this in their teachings and preachings. I commented to my wife that I feel the need to be as transparent as I possibly can in my preachings and in ministry but often feel as if I am viewed as “weaker” as you said for doing so. I have found that the more transparent I am the more people appreciate it and they are able to really relate and make a connection with what I am saying. I am extremely intrigued by this series that you are about to undertake and will look forward to hearing the podcasts. Please keep us updated on the progression and results of this series. Great Job!

John,
Great post and idea. Found your site through Pete’s. As a native Texan I’m pumped about how God’s using you in the motherland! Peace.

Hey Bro,
.
I’ll have our office send you a copy of the book… just don’t tell me if it ends up getting stored in the smallest room in your house where you only read the “boring” stuff
